Jimmie C. Harmon

Savannah, Georgia - Jimmie Carroll Harmon, born April 20, 1934, in Midway, TN, to Walter Maloney Harmon d and Bernicia Bible Harmon d. He died January 19, 2008 at the age of 73 at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, GA.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1950-52, and in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Randolph, from 1952-55. He served as a uniformed Policeman with the Aiken, SC Police Department from 1956-61. He became a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in 1962 and was stationed in Macon and Rome, GA, Miami, FL, and Charlotte, NC where he retired in 1984. He then served as Plant Manager at John C. Calhoun Academy in Walterboro, SC for the next 17 years, where he also coached JV football, assisted in Varsity Baseball, and became head coach for girl’s fast-pitch softball. Retiring a 2nd time in 2001, he and his wife of 50 years, Carmela Orsini Harmon, moved to Lake Sinclair in Eatonton, GA for 5 years, and then to Savannah to be nearer to family in 2006.

He is survived by his wife and 3 sons, LCDR Joseph W. Harmon, USN, and wife, Ginger of Pensacola, FL; Col. J. Phillip Harmon, USMC, and wife, Kay of Aiken, SC; and J. Patrick Harmon, Sears Mgr., and wife, Ellen of Rock Hill, SC. Also, by 11 beloved grandchildren; one sister, Delores Harmon Allen Mrs. Glenn Allen, Sr. of Churchill, TN; and several dear nephews and nieces of Tennessee and Georgia. His Savannah family includes his father-in-law and mother-in-law, S.J. and Emma Orsini and family.

Memorial Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m.

Memorial Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2008 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with the Reverend John Markham, Celebrant.

Mrs. Harmon and family, I wanted to tell you how sorry I was to hear the sad news of the passing of Coach Harmon. When I think about memories from CPA, they always include Coach Harmon. He was the reason that softball was my favorite sport to play at CPA. He was a great coach and a great friend. I will miss him dearly and I will never forget all of the fond memories.
